What Do I Backup?

I was checking out some Windows tips online and one of the most important tips that they gave was to backup your computer. I’m a little confused by this. I’m wondering if they’re telling me that I should every now and then create restore points for my machine, or if they’re telling me to backup my computer if I start to tweak it. Hmm. I did notice something in my Windows Vista that said I could do a Complete PC Backup. The PC backup is better than the computer restore, because it protects your whole system. It basically creates a snapshot of my computer, which also includes all of my applications, settings, and data files so that if my system ever fails, I can restore the entire system, not just my files. Apparently this option isn’t available for Windows Vista Home Basic or Home Premium, and I believe I have one of those. Booo. I’m still confused.
