Safety CuttersFebruary 28th, 2008
Tags: injuries, products, safetyOne day when I was much younger, I decided to go into my mom’s desk and get a razor blade to cut up my package of stickers. It was pretty hard to cut through the cardboard so I made the mistake of trying to apply force to the stickers while they were still in my hands. I cut myself pretty bad. I remember screaming out in pain and my mother running to me hysterical because of all of the blood.
Would you believe that ten years has passed and my mother still hides the razor blades from me. She always says that I’m not allowed to use razors or knives because that incident traumatized her so bad. I wonder how she would feel about me using safety cutters. They’re much safer than the razor blades that she’s so afraid of letting me use. I bet if I mentioned safety cutters to her she’d suggest buying them for me. That might be pretty cool!

Traveling SmartDecember 29th, 2007
Tags: trips, vacationsI was taking to my friend about going on a trip and I was telling them that I only like to pack the bare necessities when going on a short vacation, especially when you’re flying because the airport likes to lose luggage a lot. My friend insisted that it’s OK to bring 4 bags and not worry about them being lost. No way. Why would you bring four bags for a few days? That’s crazy. To me, bringing all of that unnecessary stuff is just asking for trouble.
Even if the airport doesn’t lose your luggage, who wants to worry about how safe all of your stuff is in a hotel. I think some people should use more common sense when traveling. Most people act as if they have travel insurance to protect them if their stuff is stolen or lost. I’d rather play it smart and take what I need. There’s a less chance of your stuff disappearing if you do that.

Understanding Cardiac ArrestNovember 21st, 2007
Tags: health, illness, people, wellnessTwo years ago my mom was diagnosed with a bad heart. Her heart often races and has rapid palpitations. The scariest part is that she can go into cardiac arrest or have a Heart Attack at any moment. There’s a website, InsideCardiacArrest.com, that provides people with information so that they can better understand sudden cardiac arrest and the potential dangers of it. Although my family lives with this fear every day, I will admit that there are a lot of things that I still don’t understand about the heart. Inside Cardiac Arrest is a great resource to check out if you’re like me.

Warning About Aqua DotsNovember 9th, 2007
Tags: children, products, safety, toysI found out about this product called Aqua Dots a while ago and I was considering buying it for my Goddaughter as a birthday present because it looked really cool. After reading this report on MSN today, I’m so glad that I didn’t. Apparently Aqua Dots is being recalled because seven more U.S. children were sickened after ingesting the beads. I don’t know why any child who’s of age to use the product would ingest it, but that’s besides the point. It’s being recalled because if the product is ingested the chemical metabolizes into the “date-rape” drug gamma hydroxy butyrate. When that happens children can experience breathing problems, mental confusion, loss of consciousness and even death. That’s so insane. If you’ve bought this product you should definitely throw it away.
