Home Control
April 5th, 2011 Posted 11:46 pm
My mom and I had a great discussion today about all the advancements in technology and other things. I can’t imagine what it was like in the sixties when my mom was born. Even in the eighties when I was born there weren’t as many awesome inventions and advancements as there are now. It’s a great time for technology!
There are tons of great advancements, but one that I find awesome is home automation. I love the idea of having remote or automatic control over the things in my home. That’s even better than The Clapper! I would use home automation to control security and thermostats. Those are two of my biggest concerns in the home.

Not Just Yet!

I was looking at my mom’s cellphone the other day and I really think she could use a new one. She actually has two phones that I ordered for her, but the older one definitely needs to be replaced. It’s a flip phone that she has had for a while now. It was actually my old cellphone. She loves that phone because it’s better than the one she had before it, but she has no idea how behind the times that phone is.
I would love to get her an iphone or something like that, but she’s definitely not ready for a phone that advanced. She’s had a cellphone for a while now, but she just learned how to text last month! Maybe once she gets the hang of texting and using mobile web she’ll be ready for an iphone. I would hate to buy her a phone like that just to have her ruin it or be overwhelmed by it. I could use one now though!

Time To Go Portable…

My mother has finally decided that her big outdated computer needs to be replaced. I’ve been telling her that for a while now, but since she doesn’t use the computer much she really hasn’t had much need for a new one. We’ve talked about it a little and decided that a laptop will be best for her. I’m a little worried about how she’ll handle it, but she really needs something small. I originally wanted to get her another desktop, but she doesn’t have room for it. I think the reason she doesn’t use the old desktop is because it’s not accessible.
I hope she’ll do OK with a laptop. She gets overwhelmed really fast. She was planning to buy the new computer herself early next year or as soon as she can find a good deal, but I think I’ll help her pay for it. I’m sure I’ll be using it just as much if not more. I can probably find a great deal on a nice one since I can spot a best buy a mile away. I’m the queen of savings!

Computer Conspiracy!!
January 3rd, 2010 Posted 9:54 pm
My computer has been acting really weird lately. It seems to have a mind of its own. I’m starting to believe that computers are only meant to last two years before they completely spazz out. I think the companies design them that way. It’s my theory. I think they want you to keep upgrading every two or three years, so they only build them to hold up until then. I find it completely ironic that my computers only last as long as my warranty. It never fails. As soon as my warranty runs out, my computer breaks down.
I tried to be smart and get an extended service plan for my most recent computer, but it’s still preparing itself to break down. It runs bad enough to make me want a replacement, but good enough that I can’t qualify for a company replacement. Coincidence? I think not! As soon as my extended service plan is over I bet my computer will be too. LOL
