Slooooow Computer

My mother needs a new computer BAD. Her computer is so slow that it depresses me. Whenever she turns the computer on I get this sense of sorrow for her. I know it’s going to be a long and drawn out experience. Her current computer is the computer that I used to have before this one that I have now, so I’m definitely familiar with how slow that computer can be. It’s actually gotten about ten times worse since I gave it to her. Her computer is so slow that she has to turn it off and on about ten minutes early. If she needs to be online at 9p she has to get the computer started at no later than 8:50p or it’s not happening!

I think her computer is in need of more memory and a bigger internal hard drive. I’ve looked around at the prices of desktop and laptop memory and it’s not really expensive, but I’m not sure if it’s a good investment since her computer is already so old and worn out. Maybe I should just save money for her a new computer. Blah

Shopping at ShopWiki!!

I’m the kind of person who does a lot of online shopping for Electronics and technology, but between you and I, I’m not very tech savvy. I usually search around a number of online stores for a product that I’m looking for and then rely on a search engine to tell me more about it. That’s not the best way to discover all of the specifications and features of an expensive product you’re about to buy.

Today was my first time check out the website ShopWiki.com and I love it! It’s honestly one of the more helpful sites that I’ve come across. The site has countless buying guides in a number of categories including Computers & Software, which gives you a lot of information about your favorite laptops, desktops, components and hardware, as well as Digital Cameras, which gives you information about some of the most popular digital cameras and digital camera brands.

I’m currently in the market for a external hard drive and the Wiki is going to make it easier to decide which one to buy. Other categories on the site focus on things like Books, Movies, Music, Clothing, Health and Beauty as well as many others.

What’s Worse, Cable or DTV!

I received my cable bill the other day and I noticed that they’ve raised the price again. With the new price increase my bill is now almost 90$ a month. I’m not sure if that’s normal or not, but in my opinion that’s a bit much for television. Especially since most of the shows that I watch on cable can also be viewed online. I’m really having second thoughts about keeping my cable.

The only thing that’s stopping me from cutting off my cable as of right now is this new Digital TV transition that’s happening on February 17, 2009. It seems so much easier to keep the cable than to have to worry about buying the right antennas for my televisions. I still don’t quite understand the point of that. I know the POS systems at a lot of stores are going to be getting a lot of work in February because everyone is going to be buying new television sets and antennas.

It’s December 25th?!!

I’m so glad that Christmas is over. Today has been a long and not so great day. I don’t know which holiday was worse, Christmas or Thanksgiving. After the way these two holidays ended I’m not sure if I’m looking forward to New Years. Hopefully that will be better. I’m still holding out hope. Sometimes I wish my family believed in having a more traditional Christmas. I can’t remember the last time that we did the whole tree lighting, decorating and gift exchanging at 6a thing. If I didn’t look on the calendar and notice that today said December 25, it would have been really easy to forget that it was Christmas.

At any rate, I’m thankful for this day. My family is happy and healthy and that’s all that matters to me! I’m not saying I wouldn’t have been happy receiving those gift certificates that I wanted, or that external hard drive, or even a new flash drive, but I’m pretty content.
